It's Alive!

After a brief hiatus of a few years, I’m taking a break (a brief hiatus) from other updates (sup) to comment on my latest obsession. Bon Appetite videos on youtube. For some reason I think they are great. I can’t seem to get enough. I was somewhat familiar with the editor-in-chief, Adam Rapoport, going back to his GQ days (pre-BA - that’s how I delineate Rapoport time ). His appearances on House of Carbs (a podcast I listen to that - happily for my time - only aires once a week) re-awakened (like the Force) my interest in Bon Appetite (even though I didn’t have much interest pre-BA). My point is just to say that Adam Rapoport’s presence at BA lent some credibility to the videos I began watching. Since I’ve started watching I’ve viewed many, many videos (we are in the hey-day of binging after all). I’m looking forward to their Thanksgiving offerings, and I wish I could try the pumpkin - pecan pie hybrid, but my favorite (even though I’m a fan of them all), my favorite is, “It’s Alive with Brad Leone”.

Brad makes me laugh. His humorosity (a word I just made up) is an objective truth, like most opinions (as demonstrated by many comment sections online). I’m kidding about objectivity and humor anyway - I don’t want Brad to get a big head (which might hurt his collection of hats). There’s also some great post-production work that adds to and comments on and enhances the experience of viewing.

For my money (which is none, but that shouldn’t deter anyone from watching) the best Episode of “It’s Alive” is the one (in Friend’s parlance) where Brad and Matt Matheson go noodling (fishing with your limbs!). It’s a two-parter so there’s plenty to see. And, since most of the videos are new to me, there’s still plenty left for me to see too.

Turkey Tuesday Thanksgiving week

I like eating, which is a pretty good thing because I do it fairly regularly. Still, I can't claim to be as prolific an eater as the host of the podcast, "House of Carbs," Joe House. Joe House very much seems to enjoy eating (and eating, and eating...). So that's what this podcast is about - where to eat, what to eat, how to eat...the ins and outs of eats discussed in an approachable, fun, and inviting way.

Joe House lives in Washington DC. I came to know of him (in case you were curious about my personal experience) through his various appearances in my regular listens to Bill Simmons' podcasts. I've been a casual devotee of Simmons' audio for years. Simmons formed a podcast network when he joined HBO after departing ESPN.

After some time, one of the many, many podcasts the Ringer (Simmons' website) produced was, "House of Carbs" - a podcast hosted by the ultimate hungry homie, the sultan of sushi, the king of korean BBQ, the colossus of the cookout.

If the Ringer had S.A.T.s, one analogy might read: Babe Ruth is to hitting home runs AS Joe House is to eating. You see, Joe House is not just known for his affinity for food, he's known for his ability to ingest massive quantities of food. For anyone else, the enormous caloric consumption might seem gluttonous. But Joe House is such an endearing persona that I generally find all his involvements entertaining. If you don't want to take my word for it, the proof is in the pudding (or the podcast linked in the image below as it were).
